Genre Specific Magazine Adverts

After looking at general magazine adverts I am now looking at genre specific magazine adverts to get an idea of how other artists in the acoustic genre presents themselves through magazines. This will help give me an idea of what I want my own to look like. 

 

As you can see from this one there is a fade over the whole image and Ed Sheeran is looking down so you can't see much of his face. This challenges Richard Dyer's theory as his concentration is on his music and selling his album rather than selling himself. 

 

His name is in large font so that it is easily recognised with the album name directly underneath. Both of these fall under the rule of thirds making them stand out on the advert and catching the audiences eye. 

 

Below this are further codes and conventions found in magazine adverts for example a quote about the album to help promote it along with a small image of the album so the audience knows what it looks like. 

This genre specific magazine advert is different in that it doesn't have an image of what the album looks like. Other than that the other general codes and conventions are found for example, the artist being shown in the advert. They have also included the guitar which reinforces the acoustic genre and the raw talent of the genre.

 

The title of the band and album fall in the rule of thirds making it eye catching and professional. Also the font size of the album title is smaller than the band name which is a further convention of magazine adverts.

 

In addition to this the have included popular songs off the album on the magazine advert to help promote themselves and the album, doing this enables them to help sell without including an image of the album. Again they have included a quote from a reliable source about the album to help sell as the audience will see this and be more inclined to buy it than one without a quote telling them how good the album is. This is something I want to take forward into my own magazine advert.
